Here's what you actually need to know.

If you're coming to Sepang for the race, plan the transport before race weekend

If you're staying in Kuala Lumpur and heading to the 2026 race at Sepang International Circuit, the drive itself isn't the difficult part. The bigger question is what happens before and after the event.

On a normal day, getting from a KL hotel to Sepang International Circuit is fairly straightforward. Race weekend is different. Thousands of people are travelling in the same direction, roads around the circuit can get busy, and leaving the circuit after a major session can take considerably longer than the journey there.

That's why it is worth planning your transport before the weekend starts.

2026 Sepang Race Weekend: the dates

The race weekend at Sepang International Circuit is scheduled for 2–4 October 2026. The official event page lists the weekend as the 2026 Sepang International Circuit event, with the sessions shown below.

Session times can change, so it is always worth checking the latest official event schedule before travelling. The current schedule and circuit information are published on the official event page.

How long does it take from Kuala Lumpur to Sepang Circuit?

It depends on where you're staying and, more importantly, the traffic on the day.

From central Kuala Lumpur, the journey to Sepang International Circuit can normally take around an hour or more under ordinary conditions. During the race weekend, however, you should allow extra time.

If you're staying around KLCC, Bukit Bintang, Mont Kiara or other parts of central Kuala Lumpur, leaving earlier is usually less stressful than trying to arrive just before a session starts.

What time should you leave your hotel?

For a comfortable transfer, we generally recommend a hotel pickup around 9:00–9:30 AM. You can choose another pickup time when making your booking.

The idea is simple: get to Sepang with enough time to find your entrance, walk to your seating area, collect anything you need and settle in without rushing.

What happens after the driver drops you at Sepang?

This is something people often ask about.

Our standard transfer package is designed as a hotel-to-circuit and return transfer. It is not an all-day chauffeur standby service at Sepang.

The driver takes you from your hotel to the circuit, then leaves the circuit and returns later for the planned pickup. From approximately 2:00 PM, the driver is positioned for the return-transfer arrangement.

So, yes, you have the same dedicated driver and vehicle assigned to you — but the vehicle does not sit parked at the circuit throughout the day.

If you specifically want the driver and vehicle to remain with you at Sepang throughout the entire event, that is a different service: continuous hourly chauffeur standby.

What about the return journey?

This is probably the part worth planning most carefully.

When a major session finishes, a large number of spectators will be leaving the circuit at roughly the same time. Traffic can build quickly around Sepang.

For that reason, your return pickup is arranged in advance rather than leaving the journey back to Kuala Lumpur until the last minute.

You can also leave the circuit earlier if you prefer. Just follow the agreed event-day pickup instructions and keep the driver informed of your intended pickup time.

What if I need the car after 8 PM?

The standard transfer service period runs until 8:00 PM. This does not mean the vehicle physically stays at the circuit until 8 PM. It refers to the included service period.

If additional time is actually required after 8 PM, overtime can be arranged subject to availability:

• Executive MPV / XL Family MPV: RM60 per 30-minute block
• Compact Sedan / SUV: RM30 per 30-minute block

Extra time is charged only when it actually happens.

Which vehicle makes sense for the race?

For couples or smaller groups travelling light, a compact sedan or SUV may be enough.

If you're travelling with family, friends or more luggage, an Executive MPV such as a Toyota Alphard or Vellfire gives you considerably more space and a more comfortable journey.

For larger groups, XL MPV options such as the Hyundai Staria or Grand Starex provide additional seating capacity.

The right vehicle really depends on the number of passengers and luggage rather than simply choosing the biggest vehicle available.

Coming from KLIA?

If you're flying into Malaysia specifically for the race, it can be easier to plan your airport, hotel and circuit transfers together.

KLIA is relatively close to Sepang compared with central Kuala Lumpur, but race weekend traffic can still affect journey times. If you're arriving on the same day as an event session, leave enough buffer between your flight and your planned circuit arrival.

If you're staying in Kuala Lumpur first, a private KLIA airport transfer followed by a separate transfer from your KL hotel to Sepang keeps the two journeys simple.

Parking at Sepang Circuit: what you need to know

If you plan to drive yourself to Sepang International Circuit (SIC) during the race weekend, there are a few important things to know before you arrive.

Parking at the circuit is limited and controlled. A valid parking pass is required for all cars entering the venue. Cars without a parking pass will not be permitted in the vicinity of the circuit. Passes must be obtained by the traveller/passenger directly from the official event organiser — Skylimo does not provide parking passes.

A valid ID is required when obtaining a parking pass. Passes are valid for all three days (2–4 October 2026) and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. For passes purchased in advance, collection is at Mitsui Outlet Park. Please review the instructions sent to you via email and plan your journey carefully to avoid peak traffic times.

Even with a valid pass, entry to specific parking areas is subject to event-day traffic control and instructions from the relevant authorities. Please follow on-site directions from marshals and event staff.

Pickup and drop-off points around the circuit are also determined by event-day traffic control. These locations may change during the race weekend, so follow the designated instructions provided for your booking and any directions from authorities on the day.

If you would prefer to avoid parking entirely, a private transfer means you are dropped off and picked up at the designated location without needing a parking pass or worrying about traffic control around the circuit.

Getting around Sepang Circuit: taxis, e-hailing and shuttle buses

If you are using a taxi or e-hailing service (such as Grab), the drop-off is by the main circuit entrance. When booking your ride, give the driver the address: Sepang International Circuit, Jalan Pekeliling, 64150 Sepang, Selangor. Follow instructions to your designated spectator gate on arrival.

When leaving the venue, taxis are available from the designated taxi rank. Please note that demand can be very high after major sessions, so expect a wait if you rely on ride-hailing or taxis.

Inside the circuit, internal shuttle buses run during the race weekend and operate every minute during circuit opening hours. They connect key areas such as the welcome centre, mall area, main grandstand and paddock access points — useful if you want to move between different zones of the circuit during the day.

Staying in Kuala Lumpur? Plan the whole trip, not just the drive

One mistake people make with event transport is looking only at the journey to the venue.

Getting from Kuala Lumpur to Sepang Circuit is only half of the trip. You also need to think about what time you want to leave the hotel, where your return pickup will be, how much time you need after the session, and what happens if traffic delays the journey back.

A little planning before the race weekend can make the whole experience much easier.

What should you book in advance?

If you know your travel dates, it makes sense to arrange your transportation early. Vehicle availability is limited during major event weekends, particularly for larger MPVs.

For a Skylimo booking, the reservation is only confirmed after payment. Driver and vehicle details are provided one day before pickup.

Cancellation policy

For a package covering two or three days, the cancellation policy applies to the entire package.

• 24 hours or more before the first scheduled pickup: 100% refund, no questions asked.
• Less than 24 hours before the first scheduled pickup: no refund, because the vehicle and driver have already been reserved and assigned.

The 24-hour period is calculated from the scheduled pickup time on the first day.

So, what's the easiest way to do transport for the race in Malaysia?

There isn't much mystery to it. Give yourself enough time, decide your return plan before arriving at Sepang, and make sure everyone in your group knows where and when to meet the driver.

If you're staying in Kuala Lumpur, a private chauffeur transfer means you can travel directly from your hotel to Sepang Circuit without worrying about driving, parking or finding your way back after a long day at the track.

And if you want the vehicle and driver to stay with you for the entire event, simply ask for a continuous hourly chauffeur arrangement instead of the standard event transfer package.
